​Artist in residence Buffer Bears Nursery​

This Residency took place over a 3month period, throughout my residency I took part in various Art activities with the children based around the theme of the seaside. I feel it is important for children to receive encouragement from an early age and the best way to achieve this is though play and Art.. The process of creating a work of Art is more important than the final product for children of the preschool level. Not only does it serve as a form of self-expression but helps the development of the children's Physical, Cognitive, Social, Emotional and Sensory Skills .​

At the end of my residency I worked along side the children to create a 'seaside corner.' This gave the children as safe place to explore explore the theme of the seaside further. In this area I displayed the children's art work which they created during my workshops, this gave the children a visual aid to help the reflex on what they have learnt about the seaside.

From this I have had motivation to work towards a career in Art therapy, as I feel art can benefit not only young children but adults with learning difficulties. During my time at the nursery I worked closely with a child with Autism he was able to communicate though Art, which was a massive achievement for him.
